Jelly, Jell-o or Jam?

I had to go to my special sources because I was quite confused between jelly, jell-o and jam. It seems that jelly is what the Americans put on their peanut butter sandwiches, it’s smooth, not like jam. Jell-o is what we call jelly, the type you put in the fridge and normally serve for dessert, and jam is what the Americans call jelly, jam is generally lumpy and occasionally has bits of fruit inside. Or wait… was it the other way around?
